Surah 78 - An-Naba

Verses: 40

Verses

Verse 1

بِسۡمِ ٱللَّهِ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِ ٱلرَّحِیمِ عَمَّ یَتَسَاۤءَلُونَ

About what are they asking one another?

Verse 2

عَنِ ٱلنَّبَإِ ٱلۡعَظِیمِ

About the great news -

Verse 3

ٱلَّذِی هُمۡ فِیهِ مُخۡتَلِفُونَ

That over which they are in disagreement.

Verse 4

كَلَّا سَیَعۡلَمُونَ

No! They are going to know.

Verse 5

ثُمَّ كَلَّا سَیَعۡلَمُونَ

Then, no! They are going to know.

Verse 6

أَلَمۡ نَجۡعَلِ ٱلۡأَرۡضَ مِهَـٰدࣰا

Have We not made the earth a resting place?

Verse 7

وَٱلۡجِبَالَ أَوۡتَادࣰا

And the mountains as stakes?

Verse 8

وَخَلَقۡنَـٰكُمۡ أَزۡوَ ٰ⁠جࣰا

And We created you in pairs

Verse 9

وَجَعَلۡنَا نَوۡمَكُمۡ سُبَاتࣰا

And made your sleep [a means for] rest

Verse 10

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلَّیۡلَ لِبَاسࣰا

And made the night as clothing

Verse 11

وَجَعَلۡنَا ٱلنَّهَارَ مَعَاشࣰا

And made the day for livelihood

Verse 12

وَبَنَیۡنَا فَوۡقَكُمۡ سَبۡعࣰا شِدَادࣰا

And constructed above you seven strong [heavens]

Verse 13

وَجَعَلۡنَا سِرَاجࣰا وَهَّاجࣰا

And made [therein] a burning lamp

Verse 14

وَأَنزَلۡنَا مِنَ ٱلۡمُعۡصِرَ ٰ⁠تِ مَاۤءࣰ ثَجَّاجࣰا

And sent down, from the rain clouds, pouring water

Verse 15

لِّنُخۡرِجَ بِهِۦ حَبࣰّا وَنَبَاتࣰا

That We may bring forth thereby grain and vegetation

Verse 16

وَجَنَّـٰتٍ أَلۡفَافًا

And gardens of entwined growth.

Verse 17

إِنَّ یَوۡمَ ٱلۡفَصۡلِ كَانَ مِیقَـٰتࣰا

Indeed, the Day of Judgement is an appointed time -

Verse 18

یَوۡمَ یُنفَخُ فِی ٱلصُّورِ فَتَأۡتُونَ أَفۡوَاجࣰا

The Day the Horn is blown and you will come forth in multitudes

Verse 19

وَفُتِحَتِ ٱلسَّمَاۤءُ فَكَانَتۡ أَبۡوَ ٰ⁠بࣰا

And the heaven is opened and will become gateways

Verse 20

وَسُیِّرَتِ ٱلۡجِبَالُ فَكَانَتۡ سَرَابًا

And the mountains are removed and will be [but] a mirage.

Verse 21

إِنَّ جَهَنَّمَ كَانَتۡ مِرۡصَادࣰا

Indeed, Hell has been lying in wait

Verse 22

لِّلطَّـٰغِینَ مَـَٔابࣰا

For the transgressors, a place of return,

Verse 23

لَّـٰبِثِینَ فِیهَاۤ أَحۡقَابࣰا

In which they will remain for ages [unending].

Verse 24

لَّا یَذُوقُونَ فِیهَا بَرۡدࣰا وَلَا شَرَابًا

They will not taste therein [any] coolness or drink

Verse 25

إِلَّا حَمِیمࣰا وَغَسَّاقࣰا

Except scalding water and [foul] purulence -

Verse 26

جَزَاۤءࣰ وِفَاقًا

An appropriate recompense.

Verse 27

إِنَّهُمۡ كَانُوا۟ لَا یَرۡجُونَ حِسَابࣰا

Indeed, they were not expecting an account

Verse 28

وَكَذَّبُوا۟ بِـَٔایَـٰتِنَا كِذَّابࣰا

And denied Our verses with [emphatic] denial.

Verse 29

وَكُلَّ شَیۡءٍ أَحۡصَیۡنَـٰهُ كِتَـٰبࣰا

But all things We have enumerated in writing.

Verse 30

فَذُوقُوا۟ فَلَن نَّزِیدَكُمۡ إِلَّا عَذَابًا

"So taste [the penalty], and never will We increase you except in torment."

Verse 31

إِنَّ لِلۡمُتَّقِینَ مَفَازًا

Indeed, for the righteous is attainment -

Verse 32

حَدَاۤىِٕقَ وَأَعۡنَـٰبࣰا

Gardens and grapevines

Verse 33

وَكَوَاعِبَ أَتۡرَابࣰا

And full-breasted [companions] of equal age

Verse 34

وَكَأۡسࣰا دِهَاقࣰا

And a full cup.

Verse 35

لَّا یَسۡمَعُونَ فِیهَا لَغۡوࣰا وَلَا كِذَّ ٰ⁠بࣰا

No ill speech will they hear therein or any falsehood -

Verse 36

جَزَاۤءࣰ مِّن رَّبِّكَ عَطَاۤءً حِسَابࣰا

[As] reward from your Lord, [a generous] gift [made due by] account,

Verse 37

رَّبِّ ٱلسَّمَـٰوَ ٰ⁠تِ وَٱلۡأَرۡضِ وَمَا بَیۡنَهُمَا ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنِۖ لَا یَمۡلِكُونَ مِنۡهُ خِطَابࣰا

[From] the Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Most Merciful. They possess not from Him [authority for] speech.

Verse 38

یَوۡمَ یَقُومُ ٱلرُّوحُ وَٱلۡمَلَـٰۤىِٕكَةُ صَفࣰّاۖ لَّا یَتَكَلَّمُونَ إِلَّا مَنۡ أَذِنَ لَهُ ٱلرَّحۡمَـٰنُ وَقَالَ صَوَابࣰا

The Day that the Spirit and the angels will stand in rows, they will not speak except for one whom the Most Merciful permits, and he will say what is correct.

Verse 39

ذَ ٰ⁠لِكَ ٱلۡیَوۡمُ ٱلۡحَقُّۖ فَمَن شَاۤءَ ٱتَّخَذَ إِلَىٰ رَبِّهِۦ مَـَٔابًا

That is the True Day; so he who wills may take to his Lord a [way of] return.

Verse 40

إِنَّاۤ أَنذَرۡنَـٰكُمۡ عَذَابࣰا قَرِیبࣰا یَوۡمَ یَنظُرُ ٱلۡمَرۡءُ مَا قَدَّمَتۡ یَدَاهُ وَیَقُولُ ٱلۡكَافِرُ یَـٰلَیۡتَنِی كُنتُ تُرَ ٰ⁠بَۢا

Indeed, We have warned you of a near punishment on the Day when a man will observe what his hands have put forth and the disbeliever will say, "Oh, I wish that I were dust!"
