⛩️ Section X - The Weeping of Susanoo

All the other deities assumed their domains, but Susanoo did not assume the dominion of the sea entrusted to him. He wept and howled till his beard reached to his chest, and his weeping dried up all the green mountains and all the rivers and seas.

Susanoo refuses his domain and weeps so violently that mountains wither and seas dry up.

Izanagi asked: Why dost thou not rule the land entrusted to thee, but weep and howl? Susanoo replied: I wish to go to my mother in the Land of Yomi. That is why I weep.

When asked why he weeps, Susanoo says he wants to go to his dead mother in Yomi.

Then Izanagi was very angry and said: If that be so, thou must not dwell in this land. And he banished Susanoo with a divine expulsion. Then Susanoo said: In that case I will take my leave, but first let me go to Heaven to bid farewell to my elder sister Amaterasu.

Izanagi banishes Susanoo, who asks to say farewell to Amaterasu before leaving.
