☯️ 訟 (Sòng) - Conflict
Conflict. You are sincere and are being obstructed. A cautious halt halfway brings good fortune. Going through to the end brings misfortune. It furthers one to see the great man. It does not further one to cross the great water. - Heaven and water go their opposite ways: the image of Conflict. Thus in all his transactions the superior man carefully considers the beginning.
Verses
Verse 1
訟,有孚窒惕,中吉,終凶
sòng, yǒu fú zhì tì, zhōng jí, zhōng xiōng
Conflict. You are sincere and are being obstructed. A cautious halt halfway brings good fortune. Going through to the end brings misfortune.
Verse 2
初六:不永所事,小有言,終吉
chū liù: bù yǒng suǒ shì, xiǎo yǒu yán, zhōng jí
Six at the beginning: If one does not perpetuate the affair, there is a little gossip. In the end, good fortune comes.
Verse 3
九二:不克訟,歸而逋
jiǔ èr: bù kè sòng, guī ér bū
Nine in the second place: One cannot engage in conflict; one returns home and gives way.
Verse 4
六三:食舊德,貞厲,終吉
liù sān: shí jiù dé, zhēn lì, zhōng jí
Six in the third place: To nourish oneself on ancient virtue induces perseverance. Danger. In the end, good fortune comes.
Verse 5
九四:不克訟,復即命,渝安貞,吉
jiǔ sì: bù kè sòng, fù jí mìng, yú ān zhēn, jí
Nine in the fourth place: One cannot engage in conflict. One turns back and submits to fate, changes one's attitude, and finds peace in perseverance. Good fortune.
Verse 6
九五:訟,元吉
jiǔ wǔ: sòng, yuán jí
Nine in the fifth place: To contend before him brings supreme good fortune.
Verse 7
上九:或錫之鞶帶,終朝三褫之
shàng jiǔ: huò xī zhī pán dài, zhōng zhāo sān chǐ zhī
Nine at the top: Even if by chance a leather belt is bestowed on one, by the end of a morning it will have been snatched away three times.
