Progress. The powerful prince is honored with horses in large numbers. In a single day he is granted audience three times. - The sun rises over the earth: the image of Progress. Thus the superior man himself brightens his bright virtue.

晉,康侯用錫馬蕃庶

jìn, kāng hóu yòng xī mǎ fān shù

Progress. The powerful prince is honored with horses in large numbers. In a single day he is granted audience three times.

Verse 2

初六:晉如摧如,貞吉

chū liù: jìn rú cuī rú, zhēn jí

Six at the beginning: Progressing, but turned back. Perseverance brings good fortune.

Verse 3

六二:晉如愁如,貞吉

liù èr: jìn rú chóu rú, zhēn jí

Six in the second place: Progressing, but in sorrow. Perseverance brings good fortune.

Verse 4

六三:眾允,悔亡

liù sān: zhòng yǔn, huǐ wáng

Six in the third place: All are in accord. Remorse disappears.

Verse 5

九四:晉如鼫鼠,貞厲

jiǔ sì: jìn rú shí shǔ, zhēn lì

Nine in the fourth place: Progress like a hamster. Perseverance brings danger.

Verse 6

六五:悔亡,失得勿恤

liù wǔ: huǐ wáng, shī dé wù xù

Six in the fifth place: Remorse disappears. Take not gain and loss to heart. Undertakings bring good fortune. Everything serves to further.

上九:晉其角,維用伐邑,厲吉無咎

shàng jiǔ: jìn qí jiǎo, wéi yòng fá yì, lì jí wú jiù

Nine at the top: Making progress with the horns is permissible only for the purpose of punishing one's own city. To be conscious of danger brings good fortune. No blame.
