🔥 Yasna 44 - Questions to Ahura Mazda

Hymn 9 of Zarathustra

Verses: 4

Verses

Verse 1

This I ask Thee, tell me truly, O Ahura: Who is by generation the first father of Righteousness? Who gave the sun and stars their undeviating way? Who established that whereby the moon waxes and wanes?

Zarathustra asks who created the cosmic order of sun, stars, and moon.

Verse 2

This I ask Thee, tell me truly, O Ahura: Who upheld the earth beneath and the firmament from falling? Who made the waters and the plants? Who yoked swiftness to winds and clouds?

Who upholds the earth and sky? Who made waters and plants?

Verse 3

This I ask Thee, tell me truly, O Ahura: What artificer made light and darkness? What artificer made sleep and waking? Who made morning, noon, and night, that call the discerning to their duty?

Who created the cycle of light and darkness, sleep and waking, the divisions of the day?

Verse 4

This I ask Thee, tell me truly, O Ahura: Who created together with Dominion, the precious Devotion? Who made the son reverence his father? By these questions I strive to recognize Thee, O Mazda, as Creator of all things through the Holy Spirit.

Zarathustra asks who created social bonds and devotion, seeking to know the Creator.
