☯️ 未濟 (Wèi Jì) - Before Completion

Before Completion. Success. But if the little fox, after nearly completing the crossing, gets his tail in the water, there is nothing that would further. - Fire over water: the image of the condition before transition. Thus the superior man is careful in the differentiation of things, so that each finds its place.

Verse 1

未濟,亨,小狐汔濟

wèi jì, hēng, xiǎo hú qì jì

Before Completion. Success. But if the little fox, after nearly completing the crossing, gets his tail in the water, there is nothing that would further.

Verse 2

初六:濡其尾,吝

chū liù: rú qí wěi, lìn

Six at the beginning: He gets his tail in the water. Humiliating.

Verse 3

九二:曳其輪,貞吉

jiǔ èr: yè qí lún, zhēn jí

Nine in the second place: He brakes his wheels. Perseverance brings good fortune.

Verse 4

六三:未濟,征凶,利涉大川

liù sān: wèi jì, zhēng xiōng, lì shè dà chuān

Six in the third place: Before completion, attack brings misfortune. It furthers one to cross the great water.

Verse 5

九四:貞吉悔亡,震用伐鬼方

jiǔ sì: zhēn jí huǐ wáng, zhèn yòng fá guǐ fāng

Nine in the fourth place: Perseverance brings good fortune. Remorse disappears. Shock, thus to discipline the Devil's Country. For three years, great realms are awarded.

六五:貞吉無悔,君子之光

liù wǔ: zhēn jí wú huǐ, jūn zǐ zhī guāng

Six in the fifth place: Perseverance brings good fortune. No remorse. The light of the superior man is true. Good fortune.

Verse 7

上九:有孚于飲酒,無咎

shàng jiǔ: yǒu fú yú yǐn jiǔ, wú jiù

Nine at the top: There is drinking of wine in genuine confidence. No blame. But if one wets his head, he loses it, in truth.
