☯️ 履 (Lǚ) - Treading

Treading upon the tail of the tiger. It does not bite the man. Success. - Heaven above, the lake below: the image of Treading. Thus the superior man discriminates between high and low, and thereby fortifies the thinking of the people.

Verse 1

履虎尾,不咥人,亨

lǚ hǔ wěi, bù dié rén, hēng

Treading upon the tail of the tiger. It does not bite the man. Success.

Verse 2

初九:素履往,無咎

chū jiǔ: sù lǚ wǎng, wú jiù

Nine at the beginning: Simple conduct. Progress without blame.

Verse 3

九二:履道坦坦,幽人貞吉

jiǔ èr: lǚ dào tǎn tǎn, yōu rén zhēn jí

Nine in the second place: Treading a smooth, level course. The perseverance of a dark man brings good fortune.

Verse 4

六三:眇能視,跛能履

liù sān: miǎo néng shì, bǒ néng lǚ

Six in the third place: A one-eyed man is able to see, a lame man is able to tread. He treads on the tail of the tiger. The tiger bites the man. Misfortune.

Verse 5

九四:履虎尾,愬愬終吉

jiǔ sì: lǚ hǔ wěi, sù sù zhōng jí

Nine in the fourth place: He treads on the tail of the tiger. Caution and circumspection lead ultimately to good fortune.

九五:夬履,貞厲

jiǔ wǔ: guài lǚ, zhēn lì

Nine in the fifth place: Resolute conduct. Perseverance with awareness of danger.

Verse 7

上九:視履考祥,其旋元吉

shàng jiǔ: shì lǚ kǎo xiáng, qí xuán yuán jí

Nine at the top: Look to your conduct and weigh the favorable signs. When everything is fulfilled, supreme good fortune comes.
