🔥 Yasna 46 - The Cry of Zarathustra

Hymn 11 of Zarathustra

Verses: 4

Verses

Verse 1

To what land shall I flee? Whither to flee? From nobles and from peers they sever me, nor are the people pleased with me, nor the wicked rulers of the land. How am I to please Thee, O Mazda Ahura?

Zarathustra laments his persecution and exile, asking how to please God.

Verse 2

I know this, O Mazda, why I am powerless: few are my cattle, and few are my followers. I cry unto Thee, see Thou to it, O Ahura, granting me support as friend gives to friend. Teach me through the Right the acquisition of Good Thought.

The prophet knows his weakness: few followers, few resources. He cries to God for help.

Verse 3

When, O Mazda, shall the wills of the heroes bring forth the dawn of Right? When shall the discerning saviors come with their deep teachings? On whom shall the aid of the Good Mind come? I choose Thy teaching, O Ahura, for my own.

When will righteous heroes bring the dawn of truth? Zarathustra chooses divine teaching.

Verse 4

But the wicked of action and thought, through their evil deeds and words and teachings, their souls shall indeed meet them with foul food. In the House of the Lie they shall be rightful guests, doomed to darkness.

The wicked will face consequences of their deeds in the House of the Lie.
